Hi my name is Phil Irvine and I’m the Pastor at Emu Plains Community Baptist Church. My family and I moved all the way from the Blue Mountains and to live in the community here in Emu Plains. Jesus said “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full.” Sometimes we find that our lives are so full with things to do, but we don’t seem to be fulfilled. I enjoy running, spending time with my family, playing Xbox and a good coffee. But what fills my life is Jesus. If you are wanting your life full, the best it can be, why not check out Jesus and take him up on this promise?

As Jesus was in the wilderness being tempted by Satan, we can sometimes feel we are in a place of wilderness in our Christian life. We can always rely on God in any sitaution knowing that He is in control of all things and is always with us. When Jesus called the first disciples, they immediately followed Him. We need to follow Jesus in our daily life, without hesitation.

At the start of Chapter 20, Jesus has been exercising the disciple's faith, in that He has risen from the grave. Now He wants them to believe that He truly is the Messiah, the Son of God. He does this by coming to them and reassuring them that He is alive and then commissions them to tell the world about the forgiveness that was accomplished by His death on the cross and proven by His resurrection from the grave.

In this well-known chapter we see Jesus laying out our responsibility as His followers. It is not about how much we are doing or ministering for God in this world, our main responsibility is to remain in Jesus. Eleven times He tells us to remain in Him and by doing so He is then able to work through us to produce the fruit that He wants to grow.

In this section we see Jesus promising two gifts for His disciples as He prepares them for His departure. It is the gift of the Holy Spirit and the gift of His peace, which is wrapped up in the love of the Father seen in Jesus. What are we to do to receive these gifts? As Jesus enters Jerusalem we see many people, saying many different things about Him, but Jesus is going to set them straight. His kingdom is not one of power or might, but one of sacrifice and giving His life and He calls His followers to people who live the same way.

This great chapter is where we see Jesus raise His friend Lazarus from the dead. In so doing, Jesus can not only say that He is "the resurrection and the life" but proves it in a way that cannot be denied. After this, Jesus will set out to Jerusalem where He too will face His own death followed by His resurrection that will usher in a resurrection for all who believe in His name.
